The technical fault behind the chaos on Scotland’s railways on Monday has been mounted, rail operators have mentioned.
Community Rail reported a fault with the GSM-R system which permits drivers and signallers to speak with one another on Monday morning, with the difficulty inflicting extreme disruption all through the day.
However ScotRail mentioned later that night the issue had been resolved. “Disruption attributable to a fault with the radio methods between the motive force and the signaller has now ended,” a ScotRail spokesman mentioned. “Companies are now not affected by this drawback.”
The communication fault meant no providers had been working on the Argyle or North Clyde routes.
Routes affected included Helensburgh Central to Edinburgh Balloch to Airdrie and Milngavie to Motherwell.
Community Rail mentioned that fibre cable failure has been recognized as the reason for the fault and that specialist groups had been referred to as in to make the mandatory repairs.
